93-year-old Bodybuilder Charles Eugster is Truly a Medical Marvel (Photo)

At the age of 93 years old, Charles Eugster is the world’s oldest bodybuilder. If you’re thinking that he was already a bodybuilder since he was young, you’re wrong. This former dentist from London UK started his bodybuilding career at a late age of 87.

Dr. Charles Eugster started to notice his body was getting flabby after reaching his 80s. In an interview with Rhianon Howells, Eugster admitted his vanity to be the main reason for his fit shape.

“At 85 I had a crisis. I looked at myself in the mirror one day, and saw an old man. I was overweight, my posture was terrible and there was skin hanging off me where muscle used to be. I looked like a wreck… I knew I was supposed to slow down, but I’m vain. I missed my old body and wanted to be able to strut across the beach, turning heads,” Eugster said.

After six years in his bodybuilding career, he had developed a daily routine comprised of more than two hours, where he can put out more than 60 pullups and 50 pushups at a time. A blood analysis has revealed that he has the profile of an athlete and an absence of the nasty substances that usually accompany ageing such as high levels of bad LDL cholesterol. His resting heart rate is also in the 50s which is near athletic.

In 2008, Charles signed up for his first bodybuilding championship where he got higher scores than all the female and most male contestants. In 2010, he won the Strenflex World Championship (an international fitness competition) in the over 80-age group with the highest number of points ever scored. His winning performance featured 57 dips, 61 chin-ups, 50 push-ups and 48 abdominal crunches, each in 45 seconds!

Dr. Charles Eusgter has a website where it says that he is “The World’s Oldest Competitive Oarsman and Bodybuilder.”

“If you take up bodybuilding in old age you will add not only years to your life but also life to your years,” he said.

Charles is truly an inspiration to all of us that it is not too late to become fit and healthy. Currently, he is living in his home country Switzerland where he has become a celebrity, appearing on prime time television as a subject of documentary features and as a talk show guest.
