Israel Prohibits Underweight Models

Seeing beautiful and sexy women in the television or in fashion magazines could really create that sense of envy among young ladies and teenage girls. It has become their goal to have that skinny figure. For them, such achievement could boost their self esteem.

These skinny ladies can sometimes be seen being featured in sites like russian girls seeking men portals or some sort of mail order bride russian websites wherein some men spend most of their time just to find their other half.

However, the government of Israel found out that 2 percent of girls aged 14 to 18 in Israel have eating disorders. This is so alarming hence urging the government to implement laws to stop such things to flourish.

The law then requires male and female models in Israel must have a body mass index (measure of weight proportionate to height) of no less than 18.5. Given that most of the models stand six feet tall, their weight should be no less than 136.5 pounds.

In short, not being underweight joins not being overweight in the modeling world.

“Beautiful is not underweight,” Rachel Adato, one of the lawmakers who voted for the bill, told Reuters. “Beautiful should not be anorexic.”
