Lamar Odom and Dallas Mavericks Part Ways

The Dallas Mavericks and Lamar Odom have decided to part ways after the reigning Sixth Man of the Year could not get his groove with the defending NBA champions. The Mavericks are still in the running to make it to the playoffs but they will defend their title without the versatile forward acquired from the Los Angeles Lakers.

Odom would have been a steal for the Mavericks had he played his usual game but it has been a difficult year for the six-foot-ten player after going through personal issues. He could have offset the loss of Tyson Chandler to free agency this season as a veteran player who is a better scored and can defend as well. Odom could play multiple positions and the franchise was hoping to create unique challenges to opposing teams by playing Odom in different positions to create mismatches.

The Dallas Mavericks put Odom on the inactive list and will no longer play him until the end of the season. “I’m sorry that things didn’t work out better for both of us,” Odom said. “But I wish the Mavs’ organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship.”

With his NBA season over, the next season will also be an uncertainty for Odom based on his recent performance.
