Russell Brands Gives Katy Perry Their House
British-born actor Russell Brand would rather have his freedom than a $6.5 million mansion. Thus, it was an easy decision for him to hand over to ex-wife Katy Perry all the rights to their Hollywood Hills home.
Perry gets to keep their house and Brand gets to finally enjoy his freedom from their marriage. Fair enough don’t you think?
The former husband and wife bought the sprawling $6.5 million mansion that has seven bedroom and nine bathroom in June 2011 and they also purchased a two-bedroom, two-bathroom New York City penthouse for $2.68 million in 2010. They reportedly sold another Los Angeles property in July 2011 for $3.3 million.
Why the need to identify and divide the assets they acquired? It is because Perry and Brand did not sign a prenuptial agreement when they got married in October 2010.
Because they did not have a pre-nup, Brand was entitled to half of what Perry earned during their 14-month marriage — easily a $20 million divorce signing bonus. But, surprise, surprise…Brand refused to take any of Perry’s money.
